Fassbinder is undoubtedly the most important German director of the second half of the 20th century. His death at the age of 37 left an immense void. Having followed Fassbinder for 13 years, Christian Braad Thomsen has made this film on the basis of his own memories, the many conversations he had with Fassbinder and his mother and recent interviews with close relations of the German director. The film, divided in 7 parts, begins in the post-war period and draws an intimate and enlightening portrait of the man and his work, which is a source of much enthusiasm and controversy even today.
