Animal Life brings together the themes of gender and injustice, both social and racial, through the chronicle of a Puerto Rican family in New York, where a young boy will discover life and his being different. It brings to light the close ties binding together this atypical family and his parents' and brothers' inability to understand who he really is. A a story of learning, often funny, still beautiful and heart-breaking, filled with love to the point of tragedy.
