Chantal Akerman is a Belgian filmmaker. This is her first feature film, restored in 2015 by Cinematek, and a major milestone in her artistic career. Alone in her room, Julie (Chantal Akerman) “fait l’apprentissage d’elle-même”. From “I” to “She”, the experience is also about seizing one’s freedom. Between minimalist burlesque, contemporary art and burning sensuality, this film is remarkably bold, most particularly in the way it deals with women’s sexuality with other women.
