On February 21, 2012, members of the feminist performance art group ‘Pussy Riot’ organise a ‘punk prayer protest’ in Moscow’s largest cathedral. The 40-second long satirical performance results in the arrest and incarceration of three young women, charged with blasphemy and hooliganism. Through exclusive footage and witness accounts, we discover the real people behind the flashy and symbolic ‘balaclavas’, three political rebels that, to many, have become a symbol of heroism. Though painting a bleak picture of modern Russia, the message of the film is primarily one of hope and inspiration, purveyed through an exciting portrayal of the activism of Pussy Riot.
